What is Smiley Sundays?
Smiley Sundays is more than just a monthly gathering - it's a commitment to showing up for children facing one of the hardest realities a kid can face: growing up with a parent or guardian struggling with addiction.
Once a month on Sundays, our club comes together to support these children through restaurant fundraisers, care packages, and volunteer opportunities in partnership with organizations like Hope the Mission, Girls Inc., Camp Mariposa, and the Eluna Network.
Through themed activities, meaningful conversations, and reliable presence, we build relationships that remind these children they're valued, supported, and never alone in their journey.

Reasons To Smile
More than a gathering — Smiley Sundays is a network of programs designed to build resilience, spark creativity, and give every child a trusted support system.
Buddy Bridge Mentorship Program
High schoolers act as consistent 'buddies' for elementary students affected by parental addiction. Activities include reading together, crafts, outdoor play, and journaling.
Creative Healing Project
Art, writing, or music workshops that help children express feelings they can't safely verbalize. Themes like 'Stories of Strength' or 'Drawing What Makes Me Feel Safe' guide sessions.
Resilience Toolkit Initiative
Develop and distribute age-appropriate 'Resilience Toolkits' that teach coping skills like breathing exercises, emotion charts, and calming tools.
Family Futures Awareness Campaign
A community awareness effort to destigmatize addiction and highlight children's needs through posters, short videos, and school talks in collaboration with local recovery groups.
Meet Chace
Chace Friedman is a high school junior and the founder of Smiley Sundays, a student-led program that provides mentorship, reading, and emotional support for children affected by addiction, while also forming a community students can rely on.
Chace was inspired to start Smiley Sundays since he understands firsthand how unpredictable and isolating this experience can be for a child. He knows the importance of having something consistent and positive to look forward to each week.
Outside of Smiley Sundays, Chace loves doing the things that put a smile on his face: hanging out with friends, playing basketball, spending time with family, creating new business ideas, and giving back to his community.
With the support of his family and close friends, Chace found the stability, encouragement, and love he needed to thrive, and he is committed to helping other children feel that same sense of safety and belonging.
Chace’s mission is to create a safe, dependable space where children impacted by addiction feel seen, supported, and empowered — reminding them that they are not alone and that one consistent, caring community can make a lasting difference.
